The stack at a glance.
IEEE 2030.5 client
APACHE-2.0py20305
The open-source client: mTLS, DERControl, telemetry, CLI runner. Supports 2030.5-2018/2023 and CSIP-AUS.
SunSpec Modbus
APACHE-2.0pysunspec2
Device-side library for Modbus over TCP, RTU, and TLS. Works with 80% of inverter-based products.
DER canonical models
OPENsunspec/models
Inverters, batteries, EVs, and meters as IEEE 2030.5 / SunSpec objects. One mapping, all grid codes.
IEEE 2030.5 standard
REFERENCEProtocol & profiles
CSIP, CSIP-AUS, CSIP-Germany, CSIP-EU. Specification and profiles via SunSpec Alliance.
Conformance testing
TESTSunSpec Certified
Test suites and certification program. Satori is validated against them.
Quick Start
DOCSpy20305 guide
Pip install to live connection in 30 minutes: pairing, registration, events, telemetry.
Today: Python-based client on Linux and Docker. Future releases: C++ and firmware-friendly implementations to enable deployment on embedded systems, gateways, and microcontrollers. Same semantic mapping, different deployment contexts.
Module documentation
Deep dives by module.
PY20305 CLIENT
IEEE 2030.5 / CSIP
From pairing to production. Conformance testing, API reference, Docker deployment.
PYSUNSPEC2 LIBRARY
SunSpec Modbus
TCP, RTU, TLS. Device-side library for the Modbus bridge.
Community
Two tracks. Pick your path.
USER GROUP
End-user experiences
Monthly, 60 minutes, free. Field challenges, deployment wins, what's working. Your feedback ships in releases, credited in notes.
STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT
Engineering focus
Focused work groups build and maintain the stack. Protocol, conformance, Modbus bridge, profiles, tooling. See the work groups below.
Standards development
Five work groups.
Join the bi-weekly engineering call or pick up an issue. Work tracked via GitHub labels.
Meetings
Two cadences.
Monthly · 60 minutes · free | TBD. Field experience, Q&A, no prep.
Bi-weekly | TBD. Triage, work-group updates, roadmap review.
Watch the repo ↗ or email satori@dersec.io. Notes archived in Discussions ↗.
Roadmap
Built in the open.
Standing agenda item at every bi-weekly call. What shipped, what's next, reprioritization. Tracked as GitHub milestones and issues.
HAVE A SAY
Propose or reprioritize
File a feature proposal, or bring it to the roadmap review segment of the bi-weekly call.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions.
-
What exactly is open source?
›The IEEE 2030.5 / CSIP client (py20305) and the SunSpec Modbus bridge (pysunspec2) are Apache-2.0: royalty-free, including on gateway, EMS and HEMS products.
Satori Scout, the reference iOS/Android app, is free for everyone (App Store, October 2026); its source code is available under commercial license for OEM, aggregator and VPP app integration.
-
What devices can I connect?
›Any UL 1741 SB certified device that speaks SunSpec Modbus: TCP, RTU or TLS. That's the vast majority of inverter-based products shipped globally.
-
Do I need to change device firmware?
›No. Point py20305 at the device's Modbus port and it becomes a compliant IEEE 2030.5 client: registration, discovery, control and telemetry with no firmware change.
-
Which IEEE 2030.5 versions and profiles are supported?
›2030.5-2018 and 2030.5-2023, with CSIP and CSIP-AUS application profiles. CSIP-Germany and CSIP-EU profiles are community maintained.
-
How are certificates handled?
›In-band registration over the IEEE 2030.5 session: SunSpec PKI production or test certificates, or bring your own operator/aggregator CA chain.
-
How do I get help?
›Start with the module documentation and the Quick Start Guide, then the User Group. Bugs and feature proposals go to GitHub Issues ↗.
-
Is there commercial support?
›DER Security offers a supported enterprise distribution and hosted head-ends. Email satori@dersec.io.
-
Where do I report a security issue?
›Email satori@dersec.io directly; please don't file security reports as public issues.
